Artist Representation Press Release Template and Example

New representation, a major commission, a museum survey, or a significant career shift. Representation announcements are routine, so the release has to justify why this pairing matters rather than simply recording that it happened.

Galería Méndez now represents Maria Alvarez worldwide. The gallery will present the artist's first solo exhibition with it in March 2026.

Alvarez works in weaving and drawing, using hand-dyed cotton and salvaged thread from decommissioned textile mills along the Rio Grande valley. Her work has been shown at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the Blanton Museum of Art, and entered the collection of the Ruby City Foundation earlier this year.

The representation continues the gallery's focus on material and textile practices. "Maria works with industrial remains without turning them into nostalgia, which is rarer than it sounds," said Elena Méndez, founder of the gallery. "The mills are in the work as fact, not as memory."

Alvarez continues to be represented by Marfa Contemporary in Texas. She is currently preparing a commission for the Blanton Museum of Art, to open in 2027.

The quote here makes a specific critical claim about the work. A quote about being delighted to welcome the artist is filler, and every editor recognises it as such.

Conventions
  • Say whether representation is exclusive, worldwide, or shared.
  • Name any existing galleries the artist continues to work with.
  • Give the first exhibition date if one is scheduled.
  • Mention forthcoming institutional projects, which signal momentum.
  • Keep the biography to the facts a critic would check.
What gets it deleted
  • Announcing representation before the other gallery has been told.
  • Omitting whether it is exclusive, which is the first question an editor asks.
  • Leading with the gallery's prestige rather than the artist's work.
  • A quote that could be about any artist.
